Charpak is the French government scholarship programme in India. Divided into 4 sub-programmes, it allows Indian students to study at undergraduate or postgraduate levels in public and private institutions in France.

1) Charpak Bachelor’s Scholarship:
It is offered to students who want to pursue a full time bachelor’s programme in France.

  • The scholarship is awarded for the entire length of the Bachelor’s programme.

Eligibility

  • Be an Indian national or an OCI card holder
  • Be maximum of 23 years old at the time of application
  • Have never studied at an educational institution in France before
  • Have completed secondary school in India
  • Have applied for an eligible bachelor’s programme with a start date of 1 September 2023

Application Procedure
It is essential for the students to have applied for admission at a France institution, before applying for the scholarship. To be considered for the scholarship, you must submit an application on online scholarship platform http://ifi.scholarship.ifindia.in/ along with the scans of following documents:

2) Charpak Master Scholarship
This scholarship is given to Indian students admitted in a master’s programme in France. The scholarship is renewable once, upon request and based on the results obtained by the student in their first year of the master’s programme.

Eligibility

  • Be an Indian national or an OCI card holder. You should not be more than 30 years old at the time of application.
  • Currently enrolled in or have studied at an Indian Institution of higher learning or a young professional employed in a company for a maximum of 3 years at the time of application
  • Have applied for admission at a French institution, before applying for the scholarship.
  • Course must take place in France. Semester abroad will not be funded under the scholarship.
  • A Charpak scholarship holders who are currently completing their M1 in France can re-apply for a second year of funding in order to complete their M2. There is no automatic renewal of the scholarship at the M2 level. Acceptance will be subject to academic performance at the M1 level, nature of the master programme and a new statement of purpose.
  • Knowledge of French is an asset but not mandatory
  • Scholarship is available for master’s degree programmes in France. You will not be eligible if you want to work on your master thesis or research project.

Online application procedure
The aspiring candidate must submit their application on the online scholarship portal http://ifi.scholarship.ifindia.in/ along with the following documents:

  • Passport size photograph
  • Copy of the first page of your passport (with photo and expiry date). If you will be getting your passport after the deadline, please attach proof of your passport application.
  • Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages).
  • Copy of your admission/acceptance letter from the French higher education institution.
  • Copy of mark sheets and degree of Higher Secondary School (XII), Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees (including those of completed semesters of the ongoing degree)
  • French language certificate, if any (DELF /DALF)
  • Document of employment / internship record, if applicable
  • Letter(s) of recommendation from the current Indian university/employer or the institution last attended. The letter(s) of recommendation should be submitted as scanned copies of the original typed and signed paper letters and should preferably be with reference to the scholarship. This has to include the signature and the contact details of the referee, and (if possible) should be on headed paper of the institution and bear a stamp of the institution.

Selection procedure
Applications will be selected on the basis of academic excellence, consistency, quality of the application and the statement of purpose. There is no CGPA/percentage cut-off for the scholarship. A tie-up between the current Indian institution and the future French institution will also be an asset.

3) Charpak Lab Scholarship :
Open to graduate and post graduate students pursuing studies in engineering, science, management and humanities and wishes to attend an internship/research project at a French laboratory or university during their academic break (May-July)

Benefits

  • Monthly stipend of 700 euros for maximum 2 months (preferably between May and July) provided by the Embassy of France in India
  • Student visa and Etudes en France fees waiver

Note: The scholarship does not cover medical or travel expenses, travel insurance or assistance with finding accommodation.

Eligibility

  • Indian national residing in India at the time of application and not more than 30 years old at the time of application
  • Currently enrolled in an Indian institution of higher learning at Bachelor’s/Master’s level
  • Have an acceptance letter from a French laboratory or institution where the research internship/project will be carried out. You must approach the laboratory or institution on your own, as per your research interest before applying for the scholarship.
  • Duration of the research internship/project must not be less than one month and cannot exceed two months. If the duration exceeds two months, the awardees will have to cover the expenses for rest of the duration by themselves.

Application Procedure

  • Application must be submitted on http://ifi.scholarship.ifindia.in/ along with the following documents:
  • Recent photograph
  • Scanned copy of the first page of your passport (with photo and expiry date)
  • Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages)
  • NOC from your Indian institution – should mention that you are a student there, and are selected for the internship and that your Indian institution has no objection to your internship. The document must mention the name of the French institution/laboratory.
  • Scanned copies of mark sheets and degree of Higher Secondary School (XII), Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees (including those of completed semesters of the ongoing degree)
  • French language certificate, if any (DELF/DALF)
  • Scanned copy of your admission/acceptance letter from the French higher education institution / laboratory. The acceptance letter should mention the exact dates of the programme.If the =acceptance letter has not been received before the deadline, you can attach an email correspondence to show that you are in the process of getting the same.
  • Document of employment/internship record, if any
  • Letter (s) of recommendation from the current Indian university (optional)

The application will be selected on the basis of academic excellence as well as the consistence and quality of the candidate’s statement of purpose. There is no CGPA/ Percentage cut off for the scholarship. Knowledge of French language will be an asset but is not mandatory.

4) Charpak Exchange Scholarship – Autumn Session (Sept-Dec): The scholarship is designed for Indian students from all fields and streams of study, enrolled in an Indian institution at the Bachelors or Master’s degree level, who wish to undertake an exchange semester programme (for a period of one to six months).

Eligibility

  • An Indian national residing in India or an OCI card holder
  • Not more than 30 years old at the time of application
  • Currently enrolled in an Indian institution of higher learning that has a tie-up with the French institution where the applicant will pursue an exchange semester: Final-semester students working on research projects or theses are not eligible to apply.

Application Procedure

  • It is essential for the students to have applied for admission at a France institution, before applying for the scholarship. To be considered for the scholarship, you must submit an application on online scholarship platform http://ifi.scholarship.ifindia.in/ along with the scans of following documents:
  • Passport size photograph
  • Copy of the first page and last page of your passport (with photo and expiry date)
  • Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages)
  • NOC from the Indian institution
  • Scanned copy of the admission/acceptance letter from the French higher education institution. If you have not received the acceptance letter before the deadline, attach an email correspondence to show that you are in the process of getting it from them.
  • Scanned copies of mark sheets of Higher Secondary School (XII), Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees (including those of completed semesters or the ongoing degree). The students pursuing Master’s programmes, must upload their Bachelor’s Degree mark sheets as well as passing certificate.
  • French language certificate (DELF/DALF), if any.
  • Document(s) of employment / internship record, if any.
  • Recommendation letter from the university (optional)
