An Introduction to Yangzhou University
Yangzhou is located at the junction of Chinaโs Grand Canal and the Yangtze River, the former inscribed on UNESCOโs World Heritage List, the latter known as the worldโs third longest river. Yangzhou enjoys a history of more than 2500 years and has been listed on Chinaโs first group of Historical and Cultural Cities. Yangzhou is famous for its brilliant cultures, talented people, blended modern and ancient civilizations as well as its picturesque scenery.
Yangzhou won the UN Habitat Award in 2006 and was designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in 2019. Yangzhou has four distinct seasons, a mild climate, beautiful scenery and exquisite cuisine and thus is agreeable for living and conducting professional business. Entirely integrated into the Yangtze Economic Belt, Yangzhou is one of the major cities in the Yangtze Delta Region. The airport, high-speed railways, and freeways conveniently connect Yangzhou with all major cities in China.

The seven campuses of Yangzhou University cover a total area of around 2.7 million square metres, and the construction area consists of 1.6 million square metres. Those beautiful campuses spread over the entire city of Yangzhou, making it more attractive. Yangzhou University provides a wide range of facilities โ libraries with rich collections of scholarly resources, advanced laboratories, and well-serviced dormitories among other accommodations. All these bring much convenience to both students and teachers who study, work and live on campus.
Yangzhou University has a staff of over 6000, including 3100 advisors for doctorate and masters students, two fellows of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and one international fellow. The number of full-time students reaches 39000.
Yangzhou University offers 21 doctorate programs in first-level disciplines, 50 masters programs in first-level disciplines, and 20 post-doctorate programs. Seven disciplines, namely, Chemistry, Plant and Animal Science, Engineering, Agricultural Science, Clinical Medicine, Material Science, and Computer Science are among ESIโs top 1% of global universities and research institutions.
Yangzhou University excels in scientific research and technological innovations. It has over 50 different laboratories, research and innovation centers. Some are jointly run by international partners, and some are key labs at both the national and provincial levels. Yearly funding of the university adds up to 100 million USD. At present, 16 leading scientists of Yangzhou University have won the national State Preeminent Science and Technology Award, Chinaโs highest scientific honor, in three categories, namely, the State Natural Science Award, the State Technological Innovation Award and the State Science and Technology Advancement Award.
So far, Yangzhou University has established collaborations with 281 universities and research institutions from 56 countries. Yangzhou University has long been leading research and development in Chinese Cuisine and has nurtured a great number of talents in food science. Yangzhou University is also an advocate in international education. At present, over 2200 international students from 68 countries are studying at the university.
