Julius Maximilian University of Wurzburg, founded in 1402, is one of the oldest German universities with a long tradition in research and teaching excellence. Over the centuries, numerous famous scholars and scientists, such as Carl Siebold, Rudolf Virchow, and Franz Brentano, made their mark here. Some 21,000 students, including 1,500 young people from abroad, are enrolled at ten faculties. These can be divided into four main areas: humanities, law and economics, life sciences, natural science and technology. Julius Maximilian University offers more than 100 study programs. The University of Wurzburg Graduate Schools have been established to provide the doctorate degree in the framework of postgraduate studies.
