University Profile
The Royal Charter, under which we became the University of Exeter, was granted in 1955. Recent developments include the launch of the University of Exeter Medical School. The University has around 18,500 students. This means it`s large enough to offer the academic excellence and facilities you`d expect to find in a major university, but also offers a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Exeter is ranked 7th in the UK in The Sunday Times University Guide 2013 and 10th in The Guardian and The Times league tables. We are ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world according to the Times Higher Education international rankings, are a member of the Russell Group of research intensive universities and were named University of the Year in 2012 by The Sunday Times. We are also in The Times top 10 research-intensive universities: nearly 90% of our research was rated as internationally recognised in the latest Research Assessment Exercise. Every subject was assessed as including world-leading (4*) research. Exeter`s main Streatham Campus has benefitted from a 380m investment programme. This includes 130m for student residences, investment in the Business School, a new Mood Disorders Centre and new facilities for biosciences and the Law School. The Forum, a new 50m development, creates a central hub and features an extended library, new student services centre, technology-rich learning spaces, a new auditorium and additional social and retail facilities.
