Founded in 1957, Atatürk University has a campus with an open space area of 6.5 million m2 and enclosed areas of 1 million m2 where not only educational and scientific activities are offered, but also the necessities of daily life including shopping centers, branch banks, cafes, parks, cinemas, sport halls, walking areas and cycle paths are available.
Atatürk University currently hosts 28 faculties, 8 graduate schools, 12 vocational schools, 38 application and research centers, School of Foreign Languages and a conservatory. In the near future, the university will have the resources to carry out international projects and collaborative work in the fields of astronomy, astrophysics, space sciences and technologies thanks to ‘the East Anatolia Observatory’ (EAO) which will launch in 2020 as the largest-diameter telescope in Turkey.
