University Profile
In 1949, Chiba Medical College, Chiba Normal School and several other local schools unified into Chiba University.
Chiba University is known by students as Chibadai, short for Chiba Daigaku.
There are 10 undergraduate schools and 11 graduate schools at Chiba. They encompass a broad range of disciplines, stretching from history to horticulture. The Faculty of Horticulture is, in fact, the only faculty of its kind in Japan, and offers courses in cultivation, plant breeding and landscape design.
Chibadai is guided by its motto โAlways Aim Higherโ.
Students can keep active on campus through over 170 student clubs ranging from track and field to anime. The university also holds an annual festival at the start of winter in which the various clubs put on perfeormances and workshops showcasing their talents.
The university is located in Chiba, a town on Tokyo Bay directly opposite Japanโs capital city. It is ideally placed between Tokyoโs two airports, Narita and Haneda, making travel around the islands of Japan or across the sea to the rest of Asia easy.
Chiba is greener, cleaner and more affordable than Tokyo, and also has the benefit of being a short ride away from Tokyo Disney. Itโs easy to escape to the capital for a day or night out: a must given Tokyoโs wealth of things to do. Whether admiring ancient calligraphy in the Imperial Gardens or singing karaoke at 3am, the city offers something for every taste.
