University Profile
Located in the China’s capital Beijing, Capital Medical University (CMU) has a long held reputation as one of the top medical universities in the country.
Established in 1960 as the Beijing Second Medical College it quickly gained a reputable status as a leading institution, although it was not until 1994 that it was renamed as the Capital Medical University.
In 2001 the Beijing Union University School of Chinese Medicine, the Beijing Medical College and CMU were incorporated into one school, bringing the capital’s leading medical institutions together to form one university. Today CMU is made up of six campuses located throughout the capital, including an international campus to accommodate the increasing number of overseas students choosing to study at CMU.
Professor Wu Jieping, the founding president of the university, was a world famous urologist as well as being a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Today, six members of teaching staff are members of these prestigious academies, enhancing the university’s domestic reputation further.
CMU consists of ten separate schools and is affiliated with 20 medical colleges and hospitals in Beijing, which means it is able to offer a wide range of qualifications. Along with domestic affiliations CMU places great importance on building relationships with other nations, and has a history of cooperation with a long list of countries including the US, the UK, Australia and Sweden.
The sheer size of CMU means that thousands of medical professionals graduate each year, often going on the become leaders in the respective fields.
