British Council has selected two Indian scholars for EARTH scholarships, who will now get the opportunity to work at Scottish universities. These selected scholars are Camellia Biswas and Ajmal S. Rasaq.
Biswas is a doctoral researcher in Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Gandhinagar. She will visit and work in collaboration with the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) to examine the ecological-cultural evolution of human-seal relationships in the Northern Scottish Islands across place and time to comprehend climate emergency and conservation action.
Rasaq is a fifth-year doctoral candidate in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Guwahati. He will be based at the School of Geographical and Earth Sciences at the University of Glasgow, where he will explore how climate change has shifted the relationships between landowners and agricultural labour in the paddy fields of Chellanam, a coastal suburb of Cochin, Kerala.
The selected scholars will be offered research placements, training and opportunities to connect with Scotland-based PhD researchers, as well as industry and community partners for three months.
Earth Scholarships are offered jointly by the British Council Scotland and Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities. These scholarships have been designed to motivate more action against the climate crisis, encourage global and interdisciplinary collaborations with a focus on environmental sustainability themes and the interventions of the arts and humanities.
