University Profile
Keio University is a private comprehensive education institution mainly located on campuses in the Greater Tokyo Metropolitan area. It was founded in 1858 by Yukichi Fukuzawa, a highly respected educator and intellectual, and is Japan`s first modern institution of higher learning. Over the last century and a half it has established itself as one of the country`s leading universities through its continued commitment to excellence in its education, research and medicine. Today, it consists of 10 undergraduate faculties, 14 graduate schools and over 20 research centers; and approximately 35,000 students – including 1,200 international students – and 3,000 faculty members.
