University Profile
Newcastle University can trace its origins to a College of Medicine established in 1834. Today, it is one of the UK`s leading universities with a thriving international community of almost 21,400 students, offering around 175 undergraduate and 340 postgraduate degree programmes in a wide range of disciplines. Through its societal challenge themes of ageing, sustainability and social renewal, Newcastle is committed to research that addresses some of society`s most pressing needs. A founder member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities, it has an outstanding reputation, with world leading or internationally recognised research identified in all 38 of its submitted subject areas in the last Research Assessment Exercise. It is ranked in the EPSRC`s top 12 most strongly funded universities and 17th in the UK for research power by the influential publication, Research Fortnight. Internationally, Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) offers full UK medical and biosciences degrees in-country. The University has recently added more subjects to its programme in Singapore, with Singapore Institute of Technology and Ngee Ann and Nanyang Polytechnics.
