The John Monash Scholarship is unique, as Australia’s own and most prestigious national postgraduate Scholarship award. It supports Australian postgraduate students to undertake study at an overseas institution.

The scholarships are administered by and awarded through The General Sir John Monash Foundation, established in 2001 with a bold mission to encourage academic excellence of Australia’s brightest individuals. It aims to foster the growth of their leadership qualities and harness their talents, investing in and building Australia’s future capability.

The John Monash Scholarship for postgraduate study overseas both celebrate and are awarded in the spirit of General Sir John Monash, a remarkable Australian leader who believed that education is not given for individual benefit, but for the higher duties of citizens who seek to advance society.

Unlike other Scholarship awards, the John Monash Scholarships are not limited by age, academic field of study or choice of overseas university. They are capped at $75,000 per annum for up to three years (maximum) postgraduate study.

John Monash Scholars are further supported by the John Monash Foundation Leadership Academy which is designed to provide lifelong career support and ongoing professional development, to ensure Scholars are best equipped to respond to the most important challenges facing Australia.
