The economist’s liveable cities index is in for 2023 with the data seen here. It is, however paywall protected.

In short, the top 10 are:

  1. Vienna, Austria
  2. Copenhagen, Denmark
  3. Melbourne, Australia
  4. Sydney, Australia
  5. Vancouver, Canada
  6. Zurich, Switzerland
  7. Calgary, Canada
  8. Geneva, Switzerland
  9. Toronto, Canada
  10. Osaka, Japan

A great result for Melbourne and Sydney, who find themselves back both back in the top at 3 and 4, respectively.

Of note, Perth and Adelaide are clearly doing something right, coming in just outside of the top 10 in equal 12th position.

Spare a thought for London and Stockholm, who suffered this year, dropping 12 places to 46th and 22 spots to 43rd, respectively.

According to Upasana Dutt, Head of Liveability Index at EIU “The removal of covid-related restrictions has overall boded well for global liveability in 2023.”

Makes sense.

Important for International Education

While rankings can be somewhat subjective, this one is watched by the keen eye of parents who send their children abroad. Being at the top of this ranking is important, it adds to the desirability of lifestyle and future opportunity – something all parents want for their children.

This shouldn’t be underestimated.
